- 4 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon dark rum (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add bananas, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, rum, and salt. Cook until bananas soften.
- Transfer banana mixture to a baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in buttermilk and vanilla to form a dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough over the banana mixture.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until topping is golden.
Notes
- Use ripe bananas for best flavor.
- Rum is optional but adds authentic bananas foster taste.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
