Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 1/4 cups half and half
  • 1/2 chicken bouillon cube
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 3/4 teaspoons dried basil
  • 3/4 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoons mustard powder
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups broccoli florets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1/2 cup red onion, sliced
  • 1 cup red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 zucchini, cut into chunks (equal to 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 lb. ziti
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Cook ziti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add broccoli, carrots, red onion, bell pepper, and zucchini. Sauté for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add peas and cherry tomatoes. Cook for 2 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper. Remove vegetables and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Gradually add chicken broth, half and half, bouillon cube, soy sauce, and hot sauce. Stir until smooth.
  7. Add parsley, basil, oregano, mustard powder, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  8. Stir in parmesan cheese until melted.
  9. Add cooked pasta and vegetables to the sauce. Toss to coat.
  10. Drizzle with lemon juice before serving.

  • Use fresh vegetables for best flavor.
  • Adjust hot sauce and red pepper flakes for desired spiciness.
