Doughnuts:
- 3 tbsp milk
- 3 tbsp boiling water
- 1 tsp dry active yeast
- 8 oz all-purpose flour (approx. 2 cups)
- 1.5 oz granulated sugar (approx. 3 tbsp)
- 1 large egg
- 1 oz butter (cold or room temp)
- A pinch of salt
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Glaze:
- 1/3 cup butter
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 tbsp hot water (more if needed)
Optional Toppings:
- Sprinkles
- Melted chocolate drizzle
- Cinnamon sugar
- Powdered sugar
Instructions
- Mix milk and boiling water. Let cool, then stir in yeast and rest for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture, egg, and butter. Mix to form a dough.
- Knead for 5–10 minutes. Place in greased bowl, cover, and rise 1 hour.
- Roll out dough to 1/2 inch. Cut into doughnut shapes. Cover and rise again for 30–45 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts for 1 minute per side. Drain on paper towels.
- For glaze: Melt butter, add sugar, vanilla, and hot water. Whisk until smooth.
- Dip warm doughnuts in glaze and place on a rack to set. Decorate if desired.
