- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 3 egg whites
- ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Add the milk gradually, whisking to combine.
- Cook until thickened, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and whisk in the egg yolks and vanilla.
- Pour the chocolate filling into the pre-baked pie crust.
- In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the meringue over the chocolate filling, sealing the edges.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the meringue is golden.
- Let cool before serving.
