A classic apple pie with a flaky crust and sweet, spiced apple filling.

- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 ½ pounds apples, peeled and cored, then cut into wedges (about 5 large Honeycrisps)
- ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¾ cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 recipe double pie dough or pre-made crust
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add apples, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and sugar. Cook until apples soften slightly, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in flour, cornstarch, and apple cider vinegar. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Roll out pie dough and line a pie dish with the bottom crust.
- Pour apple filling into the crust.
- Cover with the top crust, seal edges, and cut vents.
- Brush top crust with beaten egg.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- Use firm apples for best texture.
- Chill pie dough before rolling for easier handling.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
