Smothered Chicken and Rice is a comforting dish featuring tender chicken thighs cooked in a flavorful sauce with rice.
Ingredients

- 4–6 chicken thighs (bone-in or boneless)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- Optional: 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Season chicken thighs with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme.
- Add chicken to the skillet and brown on both sides, about 5-7 minutes per side.
- Remove chicken and set aside. In the same skillet, add diced onion and garlic and sauté until soft.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Add chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
- Stir in rice and return chicken to the skillet.
- Cover and cook on low heat until rice is tender, about 20 minutes.
- If using, stir in heavy cream before serving.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.
Notes
- Adjust seasoning to your preference.
- Use bone-in chicken for more flavor.
- Rice can be substituted with brown rice but may require more cooking time.
