  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup chicken or seafood stock
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon wedges
  • Cooked white rice, grits, or crusty bread

Instructions

  1. Season shrimp with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook shrimp for 2 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, melt butter with olive oil. Add onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook until softened.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, and oregano.
  6. Pour in stock and hot sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Return shrimp to the pan. Cook for 2 more minutes.
  8. Season with salt and black pepper.
  9. Garnish with parsley and serve with lemon wedges and rice, grits, or bread.

Notes

  • Adjust cayenne pepper and hot sauce for desired spiciness.
  • Use fresh shrimp for best texture.
