Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sweet maple sausage
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 8 cups cubed day-old bread (such as challah or sourdough)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh pecans (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray or butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  4. Place bread cubes in the baking dish. Top with cooked sausage and cheese.
  5. Pour egg mixture evenly over the bread and sausage.
  6. Drizzle with maple syrup. Add blueberries and pecans if using.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes until set and golden.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with extra maple syrup if desired.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for better texture.
