Description

A magical custard cake that separates into three layers while baking.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 cups milk, warmed
  • 1 1/4 cups (150g) confectioners’ sugar, sifted
  • 4 eggs, yolks and whites separated
  • 1 tablespoon purified water
  • 1 cup (115g) all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Confectioners’ sugar for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease an 8-inch baking dish.
  2. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale.
  4. Add melted butter, water, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  5. Gradually add flour while stirring continuously.
  6. Slowly pour in warm milk, mixing until smooth.
  7. Gently fold in beaten egg whites.
  8. Pour batter into the prepared dish and bake for 45-50 minutes.
  9. Let cool before dusting with confectioners’ sugar.
